Make Your Own Lego Poppy Earrings For ANZAC Day

I made a pair of these last year and had heaps of comments/questions about them so I thought this year I'd make a tutorial so anyone can make their own. If you are not a crafter – or don't have kids Lego you can snaffle – but would still fancy a pair of ear poppies, you can buy mine here

What you need:

  • Lego/Brick pieces. These small flowers are from the Lego Friends Collection I believe, but the larger ones are vegetable pieces from The Bricks they were doing at Countdown.
  • Spray paint/acrylic paint in red
    Acrylic paint in black
  • Some kind of sealant or varnish (Mod Podge will do)
  • Superglue
  • Earring backs

Step One:
Find your pieces - two the same to make a pair. Lay them on an old box or piece of cardboard and spray paint (or paint them with a brush) in red. You will need to paint them on both sides, minimum two coats. You may need less coats if you use some kind of primer but I did not and did three coats, top and bottom, letting them dry between coats.

Step Two:
Once you're happy with your coverage and your pieces are dry, use a toothpick to paint the black middle spots of your poppies.

Step Three:
Superglue your earring backs to the backs of your poppies. Let dry.

Step Four:
Chuck your earrings in a piece of floral foam or polystyrene while you coat them with your top coat. I used UV resin for this but you could just use a varnish or Mod Podge. Wait to dry and wear x
